Orange Winter Fire Festival, 2020 | Fires in the Sky at Dindima
Join Dindima Wines for a unique Winter Fire Festival experience with an Indigenous astronomy and cross-cultural focus.
There will be afternoon and early evening activities for children and adults. These will include the opportunity to learn how to create fibre arts objects using materials and contemporary and traditional techniques, along with an introduction to the Stellarium. For interested adults there will also be a guided wine tasting around the fire pits.
Before the evening stargazing commences, warming fusion comfort food and Dindima wines will be available.
You will be guided along your fiery night sky journey by astronomers Trevor* and Tina† Leaman who will also kindle your interest in Indigenous skylore. They will pay particular attention to the local Wiradjuri people's knowledge of the heavens and its relationship to some of their cultural practices.
* Trevor is a PhD Researcher & member of the Australian Indigenous Astronomy Group. He is studying the astronomical knowledge and traditions of the Wiradjuri people of central NSW.
† Tina is an Outreach Astronomer and Independent Researcher. She is also a proud indigenous Contemporary Arts Practitioner and Educator with a love of all things fibre.
